Celebration of STE(A)M Learning Ecologies results in Malta and sustaining the future

The STE(A)M Learning Ecologies (SLEs) celebration event in Malta that took place on November 18th 2025,  highlighted not only the achievements of the past years, but also the strong foundations being laid for long-term sustainability and expansion. The event, hosted by the Directorate for STEM and VET Programmes, brought together school leaders, teachers, students, industry and community partners who have actively contributed to the development of the Maltese SLEs.

Across the presentations and discussions, it became clear that the majority of Maltese SLEs plan to continue their activities next year. Many intend to broaden their work by involving additional schools, strengthening partnerships with local organisations, and deepening interdisciplinary and community-based approaches.

Several SLE teams presented the outcomes of their work including concrete plans for continuation, including joint school initiatives, new thematic STE(A)M challenges, and expanded and more targeted community collaborations. Their willingness to scale up reflects the positive experiences and strong sense of ownership developed over the past years.

A key factor enabling this sustainability is the continued commitment of the Directorate for STEM and VET Programmes, which provides pedagogical support, helping schools design and refine their STE(A)M activities. Financial support is also available although this is managed by a different department of the Ministry of Education.

This combination of guidance and resources gives schools the stability needed to innovate with continuity and purpose.

To give visibility to the work carried out, the Directorate launched a short video highlighting the outcomes of the Maltese SLEs and the experiences of participating schools. The video can be viewed here: https://www.facebook.com/reel/26050925911162876

The Malta celebration event demonstrated that STE(A)M Learning Ecologies has established itself in Malta as a valuable education practice. With schools committed to continuing their efforts, more educators eager to join, and the Directorate maintaining its support, Malta is building a solid and scalable path for the future of STE(A)M education.
