SLEs Inspiring Open Schooling Tools
After three impactful years, the STE(A)M Learning Ecologies (SLEs) project has officially come to an end. Throughout its lifetime, the project developed 109 Open Schooling initiatives, engaging more than 4,000 students across 16 countries and involving hundreds of local stakeholders, including science centres, museums, companies, NGOs, and municipalities.
To preserve this rich legacy, we would like to share some valuable resources that can inspire and support you in developing Open Schooling initiatives:
- SLEs final Portfolio: brings together a curated collection of 37 learning scenarios. Each scenario provides all the key information needed to replicate the initiative in new contexts, including the educational setting, learning objectives, partners involved, activities, tools, outcomes, and lessons learned. The Portfolio is organised country by country, offering concise overviews of each STE(A)M Learning Ecology alongside direct access to the full learning scenarios. Together, these resources offer educators, school leaders, and community organisations practical guidance and inspiration to design and implement transformative STE(A)M projects.
- Italian SLEs Portfolio: Italy played a leading role in the STE(A)M Learning Ecologies (SLEs) project, piloting 10 innovative projects that connect schools, research institutions, local communities, and civil society in co-created learning journeys. Coordinated nationally by APRE (Agenzia per la Promozione della Ricerca Europea), the Italian pilots showcase how open schooling can inspire inclusive, interdisciplinary, and impactful education.
- Create your SLEs Guiding Tool: an interactive guiding tool for planning and implementing impactful STE(A)M Learning Ecologies. The tool guides users through the main steps of the SLEs Methodology, giving educators, organisations, and companies the main ingredients to design impactful, community-relevant STE(A)M learning experiences.
- Final SLEs Policy Brief: the third and final Policy Brief of the SLEs project ‘Scaling STE(A)M Open Schooling in Europe: Policy Lessons from SLE Pilots’ provides important evidence on the potential as well as the enabling conditions for implementing open schooling STE(A)M approaches at scale
