Biotech Week at ITA Garibaldi School within the Italian Pilot of SLEs Project
Biotech Week 2025: a full day at ITA Garibaldi High School dedicated to biotechnology, sustainability, and young innovators within the SLEs project
On October 1st, 2025, the Agricultural Technical Institute (ITA) Garibaldi school in Rome hosted the event “Biotechnologies and Healthy Lifestyles to Protect the Fragility of Youth and the Territory”, as part of the European Biotech Week.
The initiative was organized within the #HorizonEU project STE(A)M Learning Ecologies (SLEs), through which students in Italy developed activities and educational products on the theme “Food Waste Reduction and Sustainable Behaviour”, supported by external stakeholders, such as research institutes (INAIL and CREA Food and Nutrition), private foundations (Barilla Foundation), and international organisation (UN FAO).
The event offered an engaging program of thematic sessions, experiential workshops, and a Youth Space where students presented the concrete outputs and artifacts of their SLEs projects on topics such as epigenetics, food waste reduction, agroecology, and new genomic techniques (NGTs/TEAs) to other school peers.
The event clearly demonstrated how the SLEs approach transforms schools into open, inclusive laboratories of innovation and sustainability, empowering young generations to become active citizens and change-makers for the future.
